Voice injuries and voice problems will be a part of many singers’ careers, so why do we remain silent about it?

Speaking out about voice problems in the performance industry can be really daunting for singers. There is a huge amount of shame and stigma involved and many singers worry that public knowledge of their voice issue will make them unemployable (particularly in an industry as close-knit as the Irish one). With #voiceyourstory I hope to start a conversation in the Irish voice community about the experiences our singers are having in this country.

Our vocal athletes are not invincible, nor should we expect them to be.

If you are willing to share your story anonymously, please reach out through the form below. You can give as many or as few details as you wish. The goal here is not to point fingers and blame; it is to give voice to the stories that have long been ignored.

Voice Your Story*

Are you an Irish-based singer or an Irish singer working abroad that has experienced a voice problem? How did this experience affect you? Did you have to leave Ireland to get help? Did you ever tell anyone about it?

*Anything that you send via this form or by any other means relating to #voiceyourstory will remain confidential unless you have given clear consent for it to be shared. Any identifying factors in your story will be removed, as will any references to specific professionals or institutions.

The most important element of this conversation is for our community to hear your personal experience.
